Students enrolled in a graduate course on "Diagnosis and Treatment of Reading Disabilities" were asked at their first class session to comment freely on the statement quoted above. The purpose of this project was to discover students' attitudes toward the parents of children with reading disabilities so that the course work could be meaningfully designed to meet the training needs of the students. In the class were seventeen teachers, with experience of from one to twenty or more years, and five psychologists in training, three of whom had had some teaching experience. All were mature and intelligent, were dedicated to their work, and deeply interested in the content of the course. Thus the responses may be considered characteristic of the attitudes held by experienced teachers now practicing in our school systems. An average response given by a student at the end of the semester should cover
