added difficulty in learning who are the well-adjusted or the poorly adjusted children in a group. An aid in determining adjustment status of individuals in a group is the device used by Moreno.2 The children's replies to a series of questions are charted on sociograms which reveal those children who are best liked ("stars of attraction"), those who are ignored ("isolates"), and those who have some connection with the dominant members of the group ("fringers"). The use of this technique may involve certain dangers. The teacher may be greatly distressed by the undercurrents revealed. Certain children, notably those least secure, may be unduly disturbed by the questions put to them. A superficial interpretation of the data may create a problem where none existed. The data may be interpreted in so many ways that the teacher becomes hopelessly confused. The therapy by which she attempts to correct unhappy situations may not be effective. There actually may be no solution to the conflicts. Being cognizant of these dangers may make the teacher hesitant about starting such an investigation. Since many difficulties, however, can be easily adjusted and since almost every child can be helped in some measure, an attempt should be made to determine what the difficulties in adjustment are.
