This article outlines the approach being developed by the Faculty of Education at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, to study education as a process within society. The approach employs politics and economics of education, comparative education, and sociology, and ultimately will introduce anthropology of education. These are taught as separate disciplines and as foundational courses for a multi-disciplinary study of the general area of education and development.
