A quantitative estimate of the contribution of blue stragglers to the stellar population in the solar neighborhood is made, with particular attention to the spatial distribution of early-type stragglers at large distance from the Galactic plane. Blue stragglers are assumed to be created in the disk at a rate consistent with the empirical data from open clusters, while nine plausible combinations of star formation and scale height histories are modeled. It is concluded that normal evolution without the inclusion of blue stragglers is incapable of producing early-type stars at large distances from the plane, while the addition of blue stragglers adequately fulfills the rather weak observational constraints. In addition, it is shown that if blue stragglers are produced at the rate implied by the models, roughly 30 percent of the A stars in the solar neighborhood could be blue stragglers. 48 references.
