A model for the operation of the s-process is studied in which neutron capture occurs only in a thin layer at the bottom of a deep convective envelope. Simultaneous convective mixing and neutron capture are described by means of diffusion equations. We find that this model admits abundance distributions which resemble the solar system distribution, but the free neutron density which is required is very high.
