The metal abundance of the nearby M subdwarf Kapteyn's star is obtained from a 10 A mm/sup -1/ spectrum in the near-infrared. The weighted mean value of (M/H) is -0.55 +- 0.15 (p.e.), confirming an earlier estimate from the strength of the TiO bands. The O/C ratio in Kapteyn's star is within a factor of 2 of the solar value. The effect of pressure broadening in a cool subdwarf atmosphere is to strengthen the lines of the Ca II infrared triplet relative to those of a main-sequence star of equal temperature. (AIP)
