Abstract

Nematocarcinus exilis is recorded from a number of localities in the eastern Mediterranean basin and a new depth range, 1033 to 4765 m, is reported for this species. These new depth records and re-examination of former records make it very probable that N. exilis is the only Mediterranean nematocarcinid. While males are significantly smaller than females, no segregation of sexes or sizes occurs in early summer in relation to depth or distance to the coast.
