An account is given of a collection of 85 species of simple ascidians from all parts of the Australian coast, including descriptions of 23 species new to science. Comprehensive keys for all species already described from the Australasian area accompany the account of each genus. There is a short discussion on the distribution of simple ascidians in Australia; and the Baudinian region, a new zoogeographic marine region in south Western Australia is proposed.
