The aim of this laboratory session has been to introduce some of the main characteristics and basic principles of operation of a family of gaseous detectors known as Parallel Plate Avalanche Counters (PPACs). The construction of a simple position-sensitive PPAC is described, and a set of measurements to test its performance is suggested. Some results of the measurements done by the students during the school are presented.
