The spectroscopy of Gd3+ in yttriumoxychloride: Judd–Ofelt parameters from emission data

Abstract

The luminescence of Gd3+ in YOCl is reported. From temperature dependent emission spectra and decay measurements, the Judd–Ofelt parameters Ω2 and Ω6 of Gd3+ in YOCl are obtained: Ω2=2.97×10−23 m2 and Ω6=8.65×10−24 m2. The relative consistency of Ω2 and Ω6 is confirmed by measuring the 8S7/2→6D9/2 and 6I7/2 transitions in excitation.
