LEP energy calibration and MZ

Authors: Günter Quast;

LEP energy calibration and MZ

Abstract

This report describes the calibration of the beam energy of the Large Electron‐Positron Collider (LEP) at CERN for the 1991 running period. An intensive program of investigations and the utilization of resonant de‐polarization of transversely polarized electron beams led to improved measurements of the mass, MZ, and the width, ΓZ, of the Z0 boson. The preliminary results are: MZ=(91.187±0.0035±0.0063) GeV and ΓZ=(2.492±0.0053±0.0045) GeV, where the first error is statistical and the second arises from the uncertainties of the energy calibration.
