Systematic trends seen in the thermodynamics of aluminosilicate crystals and glasses at high temperature may be applicable to the complex aluminosilicates encountered as porus media. Specific features of the energetics of charge‐coupled subsitutions (e.g. Si4+→Al3+Na+), of Al,Si order‐disorder, and of the many metastable states shown by crystalline and amorphous SiO2 are discussed.
