To meet the need in the applied superconductivity community of a cable test facility at high magnetic fields, a superconducting current transformer that was designed to deliver about 40 kA of DC current in Rutherford cables was designed and fabricated for operation in a 14 T/16 T solenoid with 77 mm bore. The existing infrastructure of the Short Sample Test Facility at Fermilab, including a 2000 A power supply for the primary circuit, and a fast data acquisition system, will be used for operating the transformer. Its design, sample holder development and commissioning are described, as well as the expected operational range.
