Control of the non‐zero radiation resistance inherent in metal strip transmission lines results in high‐currrent densities and low transmission quality factors. Superconducting metals reduce the ohmic losses to approximately the dielectric losses associated with a sapphire substrate. Quality factors of 100,000 are possible. Applications of this effect in communication systems are discussed for the cases of resonant filters and frequency sources.
