Construction of an undulator magnet for the Bell Laboratories' far infrared free electron laser is underway. The undulator magnet has an optical bore 120mm in diameter and a helical magnetic field at the axis that is variable to 500 Gauss and has a pitch of 20 cm. extending to an overall length of 10 m. The magnet has two helical iron poles and straight, rather than helical, current paths. Tests on a one-meter, five-period prototype magnet confirm that the design parameters will be met.
