A 3-phase variable-frequency invertor is described. It is capable of controlling the output voltages by an on-off method. The commutation circuit is simple, and is so arranged that the invertor output voltages are independent of the load conditions. The triggering circuit and a protection scheme are also described. The overall efficiency of the invertor is of the order of 90%
