The great demand for multifunction wireless devices or smartphones capable of providing a large number of functionalities has forced antenna engineers to develop miniature antennas able to operate in multiple communication standards. In addition, due to large-sized touchscreen displays, the device thickness is continuously shrinking, thus forcing the need for developing low height structures. Proposed is the integration of two coplanar ground plane boosters capable of solving size and height limitations. The solution is integrated in a ground plane having typical smartphone dimensions of 120×50 mm and attaining octo-band operation (GSM850/900/1800/1900, UMTS, LTE2100/2300/2500) by the addition of two coplanar ground plane boosters noted for their reduced dimensions of just 6×6 mm.
