IT has been pointed out by E. B. Fabiano of the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (private communication) that the values for the secular variation in the declination ( Open image in new window ), quoted in my recent communication1 as having been computed from the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF), are in error. Because of a programming error, all values for Open image in new window tabulated in ref. 1 are incorrect. Table 1 gives the correct values for Open image in new window and for the mean residuals discussed in ref. 1. Set (a) refers to values at the positions of the Scandinavian observatories and set (b) to those at 5° intervals of latitude and longitude.
