Genetic predisposition to alcoholism

Abstract

Der Konsum alkoholischer Getränke nimmt vor allem in der westlichen Welt stetig zu. Ein großer Teil der Bevölkerung ist dazu in der Lage, in sozial angemessener Form mit Alkohol umzugehen, andere Individuen hingegen haben größere Probleme und geraten in eine schwere Abhängigkeit, in deren Folge sich soziale, physische und psychische Leiden ergeben. Faktoren wie Umwelteinflüsse, Alkoholverbrauch, Trinkdauer, Verhaltensnormen, der soziokulturelle Background, die Möglichkeit, Alkohol zu erwerben, sowie familiäre Hintergründe, Veranlagung und die Stoffwechsellage eines Individuums beeinflussen den Alkoholkonsum. Während Alkoholabhängigkeit eine genetisch beeinflußbare Erkrankung darstellt, unterscheidet sie sich doch von anderen Krankheiten, die mehr einem Mendel’schen Vererbungsmodus folgen, wie z.B. zystische Fibrose, Chorea Huntington und Sichelzellenanämie. Im Gegensatz zu diesen ist die Entwicklung der Alkoholkrankheit bei einigen Individuen von dem Vorhandensein gewisser genetisch beeinflußter prädisponierender Faktoren abhängig, die dann mit umweltabhängigen, auslösenden Faktoren in Wechselwirkung treten.
