Brain metastases are the most common intracranial tumors and affect 20% to 30% of patients with systemic cancer. Improvements in diagnostic imaging and recent advances in treatment have resulted in extension of survival and decreased morbidity due to neurologic causes. The overall prognosis, however, remains poor because of the presence of systemic cancer.
