The authors present new lower bounds for the spread of a Hermitian matrix in terms of its entries. The results include a bound which is sharper than a recent result due to \textit{E. R. Barnes} and \textit{A. J. Hoffman} [Linear Algebra Appl. 201, 79-90 (1994; Zbl 0803.15016)] in spite of the fact that the latter bound is attained. Numerical examples are used to compare the results with other known results.
numerical examples, lower bounds, Numerical Analysis, Algebra and Number Theory, spread, Discrete Mathematics and Combinatorics, Hermitian, skew-Hermitian, and related matrices, Geometry and Topology, Hermitian matrix, Inequalities involving eigenvalues and eigenvectors

citations This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 16
popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average
