AbstractIncreasing number of internet users and variety of applications, demand more energy in the network to work. This requires efficient energy management in all kinds of networks. In this paper, we present an energy efficient segmentation (EES) scheme for FiWi network. The scheme works in two phases viz. segmentation phase and energy management phase. Based on traffic load conditions the EES scheme awakes minimal number of ONUs (Optical Network Units) and keeps remaining ONUs in sleep mode. This scheme maintains minimum quality of service (QoS) and saves network energy. Hence it is an efficient solution for green FiWi network.
