Abstract An optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) with a new structure is presented, which uses a Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) and an FBG-based Fabry–Perot (F–P) filter as mode selectors. The phase noise of the OEO is measured down to −104 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset. The OEO with an F–P filter instead of a RF filter has a long-term stability. Experimental results demonstrate a stable OEO with low phase noise.
