Abstract The MINERvA experiment, located at Fermilab, will use the NuMI beam line for measuring neutrino-nucleus interaction rates with very high precision. In order to obtain the unprecedented precision MINERvA is capable of, sophisticated calibration techniques are applied both prior to installation and in situ.Calibration of PMT gains and scintillator response is discussed.
