
There is a good reason to be in good spirits: The journal ECOOGICAL INDICATORS has celebrated its 10th birthday! Between ugust 2001 and August 2011, more than 11,000 pages on indicaors in human-environmental systems have been printed that are 112 articles in 20 volumes and 13 special issues. Thus, a very high ortion of scientific information on quantitative tools in environental management and valuation has been documented, and a igh portion of this knowledge has been applied in environmenal management and scientific progress. For these reasons, several embers of the journal’s editorial board have contributed to a speial anniversary volume. It provides an overview on recent trends n ecological indication and demonstrates the multitude of aspects hich are related to the development and application of ecological ndicators. Of course, the optimistic attitude of this event is based on the ctivities, inputs, cooperation and interactions of many persons, ho are part of the successful development of the journal.
