Abstract

SummaryThe record price of 20.2 million yen ($350,000) for a single bluefin tuna at a high-profile New Year Tokyo fish market sale adds to the problems of conservationists seeking to substantially increase protection for the species. The 342 kg fish was bought at auction by the owners of Kyubey, a Tokyo sushi restaurant, and Itamae Sushi, a Hong Kong based restaurant chain.
