This chapter provides a review of the methods used in the thermal analysis of heat exchangers. Equipment used in double-pipe (hairpin), shell-and-tube, and plate heat exchangers is described. The overall heat-transfer coefficient, fouling factors, LMTD (logarithmic mean temperature difference) correction factor, and heat-exchanger effectiveness are introduced and examples of their use are given. The thermal analysis of a double-pipe heat exchanger is illustrated in detail, as is the thermal rating of a shell-and-tube exchanger. Alternate approaches for providing fouling allowance in heat exchanger design are also discussed.
citations This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 8
popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average
