Abstract The differential and total cross section for the reaction p+p→p+p+ γ are evaluated by using a transition operator consisting of the standard electromagnetic interaction plus a part arising from exchange of pions between the two nucleons. The latter processes are treated by a simple semiphenomenological model. Only transitions to the final 1 S 0 state are considered. The results are compared with experiments at 200 MeV incident laboratory energy.
