β-Zr2 (PO4)2SO4 shows a weak broad-band emission with a maximum at 385 nm under X-ray excitation. This luminescence is due to a charge-transfer transition in the ZrO6 octahedron. Its characteristics are discussed and compared with the luminescence of the isomorphous compound Sc2 (WO4)3.
