Coincidence theorems and fixed point theorems for single-valued and multivalued maps satisfying general conditions of contraction type on metric spaces have been obtained, among others, by the reviewer and \textit{S. N. Mishra} [J. Aust. Math. Soc., Ser. A 66, No.2, 244--254 (1999); corrigendum J. Nat. Phys. Sci. 12, No.~2, 14 (1998; Zbl 0931.47046)] and \textit{T. Kamran} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 299, No.1, 235--241 (2004; Zbl 1064.54055)]. The main purpose of this paper is to extend the scope of certain conditions of contraction type to study the existence of coincidences and fixed points of a pair of single-valued and multivalued maps satisfying an additional condition called the EA-property (cf. the reviewer and \textit{A. M. Hashim} [Aust. J. Math. Anal. Appl. 2, No.1, Article 12, 7 p., electronic only (2005; Zbl 1111.54034)] and \textit{T. Kamran} [op. cit.]).
