The properties of binary matrices are investigated. In Section 2 the authors present concrete statistical applications of binary matrices. Section 3 is concerned with complementation and linear independence , and Section 4 deals with complementation and nonsingularity. Section 5 presents some results about algebraic properties of sets related to the material of Sections 3 and 4.
