In order to enhance the dynamic performance of power generators we propose a new control algorithm based on the variable structure control theory. The algorithm considered here is to control both governor's angle and excitation voltage of the magnetic field coil of a synchronous generator by switching the control parameters according to the position of the system in the phase plane. After deriving the stable switching parameters, we show some numerical simulation results for the real power generator control system.
