Software engineering is an area that must receive prominent treatment within a computer science curriculum. A large percentage of the graduates of undergraduate computer science programs take jobs that involve software development and/or maintenance. These jobs require that the individual practice good software engineering. While the precise methods and procedures used to achieve good software products will vary from one organization to the next, there will be basic principles of software engineering on which these methods and procedures are based. An undergraduate computer science curriculum must be sure to teach these principles and, as much as is practical in the host environment, some reasonable set of methods and procedures.
