Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) represents a promising alternative mode of combustion to simultaneously reduce engine-out emissions of particulates and nitrogen oxides. In this article, the effect of different, mostly synthetic fuels on the HCCI combustion process and emissions will be discussed. The investigations were performed at the Institute of Technical Combustion (ITV), University of Hannover.
