A whole series of results on the distribution of subgroups containing a given subgroup or normalized by a given subgroup is subject to a single principle. Namely, a whole lattice of subgroups under consideration is divided into intervals in such a manner that the factorgroup of the upper bound of each interval by the lower one provides complete information on the distribution of those subgroups.
