Über den Kieferapparat der Lytoceratacea (Ammonoidea)

Abstract

Die Kieferapparate der bisher bekannten palaozoischen und triassischen Ammonoideen erinnern an Papageienschnabel, sie besitzen scharfe Schneiden und bestehen aus chitiniger Substanz. Sie bilden, zusammen mit den Kieferapparaten der rezenten Coleoideen, den Normal-Typ des Cephalopoden-Kieferapparates. Der Kieferapparat der jurassisch-kretazischen Ammoniten besitzt breite, schaufelartige Unterkiefer ohne Schneiden, die entweder (als Anaptychen) aus einer einheitlichen Chitinplatte bestehen oder (als Aptychen) aus einer solchen mit zusatzlichen Kalzit-Platten auf den Flanken. Diese Kieferapparate werden hier zum Aptychus-Typ gerechnet.
