During post harvest deterioration studies, post harvest losses may not be expressed on juice basis like loss in TSS % juice; loss in pol % juice; increase in reducing sugars (RS) % juice; loss / increase in enzymatic activity % juice or loss in commercial cane sugar (CCS%) as reported earlier in literature. These are rather reported on fresh / original cane weight basis (cane) like loss in TSS in juice % cane; loss in pol in juice % cane; increase in RS in juice % cane etc. as these are reliable analytical parameters which account for moisture loss in cane and loss in extraction and CCS (winter’s formula) is valid only for fresh cane not for stale cane
