This paper deals with the relationships between forest harvesting and forest ecology. It proposes basing annual cuts and forest operation plans on ecological principles. Harvestablc forest resources arc decreasing and regeneration is slow. The combination of forest harvesting with ecology can be viewed as a solution to the forest harvesting dilemma in China.This paper also makes some technical recommendations for forest operations based on ecological principles.
