Extended particles can possess an angular momentum as well as an intrinsic spin s. The energy can be expected to be a function of l(l + 1) and of s(s + 1) and may assume the simple form E/C/sup 2/ = aSTAl(l + 1) + s(s + l)!m/ sub e/The lightest meson is the mu meson with mass m == 207 m/sub e/. If the quantum numbers l = 1 and s = 1/2 are used, the following equation is obtained: a = 207/2.75 = 75.27. The calculated mass values are tabulated and compared with observed values. Good agreement was found. (A.C.)
