Reciprocal yield differences were found in Tuberosum-Andigena potato hybrids. Progenies with Tuberosum female and Andigena male parents (TA’s) outyielded their reciprocals (AT’s) in tests conducted over five seasons in New York. Differences ranged from 12 to 32%. Both more tubers per plant and larger tubers contributed to the yield advantage of the TA’s. One season’s data from two locations in Peru did not reveal a significant reciprocal effect. Although TA’s were higher yielding than AT’s in New York, these progenies have a high proportion of male sterile individuals and this factor should be considered if they are to be used in further crosses.
