Summary: A previous work of the author [ibid. 19, No. 3, 201-205 (1990; Zbl 0693.62087)] is continued. Some important statements on the general probable maximum loss (PML) are sketched and in the main part the general asymptotic probable maximum loss (APML) is introduced. Some typical results on the APML are presented and discussed.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 3 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
