It is shown how the spectroscopic amplitudes for the removal of a particle from anA-body system can be determined from electron-nucleus scattering data. The formalism used is translationally invariant and therefore the spectroscopic amplitudes thus determined require no further «center-of-mass corrections». The method is applied to the16O nucleus. The spectroscopic amplitudes determined in this manner are particularly useful for the study of hadron-nucleus scattering and various one-nucleon transfer reactions.
