Though online learning is seen as an alternative to classroom learning, it should be utilized more as a complement to classroom learning. In long distance learning, online learning is inevitably a more viable option to traditional correspondence learning. In using either instructional styles, the instructional focus should be on the learning objectives and not the medium. Applying classroom practices in an online environment without making any adjustments will be an ineffective way to teach online. The Internet should be used as an instructional tool, a learning aid and a delivery mechanism, and should only be utilized where and when it enhances learning. It is, however, important to understand and recognize the potential of the Internet in contributing to learning.
