In another paper of the author, a picture of the tectonics of the Azores was presented. The morphological analysis showed evidence of a folded and faulted structure and led to the hypothesis of a crustal deforming agent related with forces from SE to NW on the crust. This agent would be in accordance with subcrustal currents in the mantle with its horizontal branch flowing from SE to NW. This concept is supported by geomagnetic, seismic and geomorphological arguments.
