Review of the genusLagerheimia Chod. incl.Chodatella Lemm. (Chlorococcales, Chlorophyceae)

Abstract

A short review of the history of the taxonomy of the genusLagerheimia incl.Chodatella with a key for 13 accepted species and a table of characteristics of the individual species is given. Members of unicellular green algae of the genusLagerheimia Chod. 1895 (Oocystaceae, Chlorococcales, Chlorophyceae) are strictly planktonic freshwater organisms. In eutrophic waters they participate in the green water coloration. The typical generic feature is the localization of spines at the ends, and in some species at the cell equator. A revision has been made of the species and their diacritical characters.
