Abstract

Since 1950 a discussion on the truth and foundations of the theory of relativity has been carried on in Soviet science. It resulted in a complete rejection of the theory by the Party philosophers, which was followed by an equally radical recognition in 1955. Since then the discussion has been carried on on an ever rising philosophical and scientific level and aims at the clarification of precise questions which are the object of discussion even in the West, as can be seen from Schilpp’s “Einstein — Philosopher and Scientist” (1949). Our goal is primarily a historical presentation of the points of view expressed in the USSR in the relevant conferences, publications and Party decrees.
