The three examples mentioned, illustrate some kinds of mathematical modelling. These were all models of isolated sub-systems. The impression may exist that it is not yet possible to model the total algal assemblage. This possibility however, depends on the aim of the model. When the aim is to predict the maximum biomass, the model of LOS (1980) can be used. When prediction of the actual biomass as well as the transition states from one maximum to the other is aimed, there is still work to be done. The same applies when one wants a model that predicts zooplankton and fish too.
| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 1 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Average | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
