Abstract

Des ouvrieres d'Odontomachus troglodytes sont placees devant quatre types de proies: 1) de taille «normale»: ouvriers d'Allognathotermes, larves deTenebrio molitor de 5 a 6 mm de long; 2) inertes: ouvriers d'Allognathotermes, anesthesies au CO2; 3) de petite taille: ouvriers deMicrotermes; 4) de grande taille: larves deTenebrio molitor de 10 a 11 mm de long. La sequence la plus riche comporte les phases suivantes: detection, localisation, approche, palpation, attaque, soulevement, piqure, transport. Seules les proies inertes sont toujours palpees mais elles ne sont jamais attaquees ni soulevees et piquees. Les petites proies, etourdies ou tuees par l'attaque, ne seront pas soulevees et piquees alors que les grandes proies qui se debattent beaucoup apres l'attaque le sont presque toujours. Pour les proies de taille «normale», il y a soulevement et piqure lorsque l'impact est insuffisant pour tuer ou etourdir.
