The perpendicular bisector construction

Abstract

\textit{J. Langr} veröffentlichte 1953 im Am. Math. Monthly 60, 551 (1953), Problem E 1050, folgende Vermutung: Die Mittellote \(b_i\) auf den Seiten \(a_i\) eines ebenen Vierecks \(Q_1\) mit den Ecken \((a_i a_{i+1})\) -- \(i \text{ mod.}4\) -- (\(\neq\) Sehnenviereck eines Kreises) bilden ein Viereck \(Q_2\) mit den Ecken \((b_i b_{i + 1})\). Die Mittellote auf dessen Seiten \(b_i\) bilden ein weiteres Viereck \(Q_3\) mit den Ecken \((c_i c_{i+1})\). Und dieses \(Q_3\) ist ähnlich und seitenparallel zu \(Q_1\). Hier nun wird diese Vermutung mit trigonometrischen Überlegungen und Rechnungen bewiesen. Abschließend weist Verf. auf eine Publikation von \textit{B. Grünbaum} in Geombinatorics 3 (1993) hin, wonach es ähnliche Ergebnisse auch bei Fünfecken gibt, analoge Eigenschaften von 6- und Mehrecken aber nicht bekannt sind.
