The electrocatalytic oxidation of sulphur dioxide in the presence of nitrogen oxides (NOx) on active carbon catalysed with pyrolized cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) was investigated. It is shown that NOx block the catalyst surface without undergoing any electrochemical changes. This phenomenon leads to a partial decrease of the electrocatalytic process rate, i.e. the SO2 removal efficiency.
